2009 SUMMER FILM CAMP
Learn to make films, animate, act and edit
this summer at the Austin School of Film.
The Austin School of Film’s award-winning Youth Summer Film Camp is
made up of intensive two-week courses that cover the fundamentals and
creative aspects of filmmaking, animation, acting and editing. Kids,
ages 8 to 19, work with experienced filmmakers and animators to
realize their creative visions and produce their own films by the end
of each course. From developing the idea to planning the production
process to screening the finished masterpiece, ASoF fully and quickly
immerses the student into the wonderful world of filmmaking.

SESSION 1: July 6 - July 17
DIGITAL FILMMAKING 1: 9:30am - 12:30pm CLASS IS NOW FULL, PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE SECOND SESSION
This introductory course provides hands-on exercises in composition,
camera movement, storyboarding, image, sound development and editing
instruction in Final Cut Pro. Each student shoots numerous digital
video exercises during class. Students will be guided through both the
technical aspects of filmmaking and the various film genres that
influence Independent and Mainstream Cinema. All films are screened for
the public at the end of the semester at the Alamo Drafthouse during
the Loud & Clear Youth Film Festival.
ART OF ANIMATION & ANIMATION WORKFLOW: 9:30am - 12:30pm
Learn from Animé aficionado Sami Inoue-Harte who has worked as an animator on Lilo & Stitch 2 and is the voice of the famous Chocobo in Final Fantasy! Professional animator Dominic Vitucci also will help teach the class. Explore the history, be immersed in theory and get introduced to the basic techniques of animation in this intensive two-week course using Flash. No prior animation experience required.
TEEN ACTING ON CAMERA: 1:30pm - 4:30pm
This course is designed to prepare students for being on-camera as quickly as possible. Many acting schools will spend weeks, months, even years on theater games and exercises before they give their students actual scenes to perform. At ASoF, we prepare you immediately for the auditions you will be attending. The focus is on scene preparation for auditions and during filmmaking.
EDITING FOR TEENS: 1:30pm - 4:30pm
This is a 2 week course in video editing and special effects. The first week of the course will provide students instruction on the complete process of digital editing in Final Cut Pro, from logging footage to mastering onto DV tape. The second week will introduce the students to After Effects and the world of motion graphics.
SESSION 2: July 27 - August 7
DIGITAL FILMMAKING 1: 9:30am - 12:30pm

DIGITAL FILMMAKING 2: 9:30am - 12:30pm
For graduates of Digital Filmmaking I from the first Summer session, from during the school year or more experienced filmmakers. This course expands on what students have learned about image, story, and sound development. This hands-on course will take teenagers through the process of making a short film from script to screen. Learn everything you need to know from screenwriting, shooting, scheduling, marketing, sound, directing, festivals. The class will be broken into small filmmaking teams. Each team will produce a short film using digital video technology. Students need to have access to a digital video camera. You will need to provide your own tapes and cover any expenses incurred by the short film.

*Cancellations received at least 10 calendar days before the start date of the class shall receive 100% refund.
*Cancellations received at least 7 calendar days before the start date of the class shall receive 50% refund.
*Cancellations received fewer than 7 days before the class shall not be credited or refunded.
*No refunds for Apple Certification Exams.
