Every year, the Austin School of Film and SXSW Film, have a 24-hour film competition on the first weekend of SXSW Film. Filmmakers, ages 14-19, get into groups of four and have only 24 hours to script shoot, and edit a five-minute short according to set guidelines. Austin School of Film teachers and mentors, editing equipment, meals, and drinks will be provided. Each team must bring their own DV camera. Event is FREE!
Sign up now for 2010! Only a limited number of students will be allowed, and it's on a first come first serve basis.
All you have to do is send in your contact information (every student
must send in their own information) to Monica at monica@austinfilmschool.org. Make sure you include your name, e-mail, and cell/home phone number(s). As the film festival approaches, you will receive further information about rules and recommended pre-registration dates.
2009 SXSW Youth MAFIA Day
Over 60 teens came together at Connally High School for the 2009 Youth Make a Film in a (M.A.F.I.A) Day Film Festival, which took place this past weekend from March 14 - 15. Participants were organized into groups of 3 - 5 and had only 24 hours to conceive, shoot, and edit their films. All finished films were screened during SXSW Film at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar on Wednesday, March 18th.
BUY this year's (2009) DVD Screening of the SXSW Youth MAFIA Day Film Festival and the Hip Hop Animation Music Video. The DVD will be mailed; please allow for 6 - 8 weeks. Also, please e-mail your preferred mailing address to Monica at monica@austinfilmschool.org, if it is not the same one as your billing address for your credit card used to purchase the DVD through PayPal.
